MIETTA SIGHELE

 

Born in Rovereto (Province of Trento), she studied in the city of Trento and in Rome at the local Opera School and in 1959 she won the Spoleto “Voci Nuove” Competition. Her debut was in La Bohème at the “Festival dei Due Mondi” conducted by Schippers and directed by Menotti. As well as Puccini, her repertoire includes, French, Slavonic and Russian composers such as Bizet, Massenet, Charpentier, Tchaikovsky, Musorgskij, Janácek. She has also been a virtuoso interpreter of Italian 18th century music, from Traetta to Paisiello, as well as 20th century works , by Rocca, Pizzetti, Poulenc and Barber. She has also performed ancient and modern concert pieces as well as oratorios. In Perosiano Year she took part in the inauguration of the Sala Nervi in the Vatican with “Il Natale del Redentore”. She has been invited to perform in all Italian theatres from La Scala to the Verona Arena, as well as in the most important international theatres of Vienna, Munich, Hamburg, Paris, Chicago, Prague, London, New York, Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, etc. Among the most important conductors she has worked with are: Muti, Metha, Kurtz, Gavazzeni, Ahronovitch, Serafin, Schippers, Karajan and Prêtre and has sung opposite the likes of Di Stefano, Del Monaco, Tucker, Raimondi, Pavarotti, Krauss, Luchetti and Carreras. She has been teaching at the Spoleto Sperimentale for the last 5 years and is regularly invited as a juror to many national and international competitions. Puccini prize in 1999. She is a member of the “Accademia degli Agiati” and is artistic director of the “Riccardo Zandonai” International Competition for young opera singers.
