ianni Massimo Arfacchia was born in Domodossola, Italy in 1966, he began to study jazz drums at the age of 6, achieveing later the diploma of percussion with best votes at the Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” of Milan. He was then immediately asked to play upon important roles in the well known Percussion Ensemble of M° Franco Campioni within the Conservatory. In 1996 he won the International Contest for the role of percussionist at l’Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala of Milan. Since then he works intensively with the Orchestra Filarmonicaa del Tetro alla Scala and with the Percussion Ensemble of La Scala. This role has inevitably made him gain acquaintance with musicians and conductors world known and has produced collaborations and projects in classic music such as The Percussion Classic Duo with percussionist Paolo Pasqualin, as well as research and experimentations like in the AriTrio where he is accompanied by Mario Marzi at the Sax and by Simone Zanchini at the accordion, where one finds examples from Piazzolla to Chick Corea, from Ragtimes to Spanish original music. In 2003 he figures as soloist in the CD “Il Galateo della Percussione”, literally “The bon ton of the Percussion”, a work which makes the most out of the resources and timbre variety of the world of Percussion. At present he holds Master Classes and Seminars throughout Italy
ntonello Cancelli, born in L’Aquila on 30/05/1984, began studying percussion with Maestro Maurizio Trippitelli. Later he studied at the “L. D’Annunzio “ Conservatory with M ° Clara Perra obtaining in 2009,” cum laude “, the three-year degree in Percussion Instruments. He specializes in orchestral percussion with Maestro Edoardo Giachino and already obtains positive feedback from the first auditions, obtaining suitability at the orchestras of the national scene such as the Tuscan Regional Orchestra, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento and the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan with which he establishes a collaboration that has continued from 2011 to today. He collaborates with the greatest conductors on the international scene both in the Opera and Symphonic fields performing under the baton of: Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim, George Pretre, Zubin Metha, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Harding, Riccardo Chailly, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Valery Gergiev, Fabio Luisi and many others. He performs in the largest international theaters and takes part in numerous tours in Italy, Austria, England, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and Japan collaborating with the greatest soloists on the international scene such as Yuja Wang, Daniel Barenboim , Martha Argerich, Stefano Bollani, Lang Lang, Leonidas Kavakos and many others. He obtained a two-year degree in Percussion Instruments with Maestro Andrea Dulbecco at the “G. Verdi ” Conservatory in Milan. He is also currently professor of Percussion Instruments at the “F. Cilea ” Conservatory of Reggio Calabria.
Preparation for auditions and orchestral competitions, study of technique for each specific instrument, with focus on both traditional and contemporary repertoire. Analysis of solo pieces with audition and concert simulations.
Ensemble music for percussion instruments with focus on the main pieces for specific chamber music and on “playing together” with and without a conductor.
